Budget 2008 - Did it Affect You?

Apart from knocking 2% off the basic rate of Income Tax (or doubling the old 10% rate as a cynic might look at it) there were a small number of changes which were helpful in the field of charities and housing.
The level of Gift Aid reclaimable by charities was kept at 22% for the next few years in spite of the Income Tax reduction, so any readers who would like to make a donation to us can do this safe in the knowledge we can get the higher rate back through Gift Aid.

People buying through shared ownership have had a boost, as stamp duty is now only payable once the purchased share is 80% of the property value.

Also, the thresholds for Inheritance Tax have increased, to £312,000 for an individual and double this for couples.
